International 4×4 expeditions

Our international 4WD tours

We are passionate about exploring the remote locations where our 4WD expeditions take us, and we put many years of overseas experience into making each international trip work. A large amount of planning goes into every one.

These trips run differently from the New Zealand programme. They are planned individually rather than to a fixed annual schedule, the formats vary from ger camps in Mongolia to a fully catered tour with drivers in the Himalayas, and lead times are longer.

If you have thought about the Namibian desert, the saw toothed mountains of Patagonia or 1,100 dunes in the Simpson, call Steve on 021 924 427 or email steve@4x4treks.co.nz. He likes nothing better than talking through plans for the next trip.

Common questions

International 4×4 tour questions

How are the international trips different from the New Zealand tours?

They are planned individually rather than run to a fixed season, lead times are longer, and the format varies by destination. In Mongolia you drive and stay in ger camps. In the Himalayas it is fully catered with a vehicle and driver per couple.

Where do you currently run international expeditions?

Mongolia and the Gobi Desert, Chilean and Argentine Patagonia, the Himalayas in India, southern Africa covering Namibia, Botswana and Victoria Falls, and the Simpson Desert in Australia.

Do I take my own vehicle?

It depends on the destination. The Simpson Desert Safari is driven with an Australian guide, and the Himalayas trip provides a vehicle and driver per couple. Ask Steve about the trip you are interested in.

How far ahead do these trips get planned?

Well ahead. A huge amount of planning goes into each expedition, so the earlier you talk to Steve the better.

Do you also run tours in New Zealand?

Yes, four South Island itineraries. See the New Zealand itineraries.
